Call to Action (CTA)

Definition

A call to action is a prompt that tells your audience exactly what to do next. It can be a button, a line of text, or a spoken instruction in a video, anything that guides the viewer toward a specific action. Common CTAs include "Book now", "Send us a DM", "Click the link in bio", and "Get a free quote".

Why It Matters

Without a clear call to action, even great content falls flat. People scroll quickly and need to be told what to do next. A strong CTA bridges the gap between someone seeing your content and actually becoming a customer. Every post, ad, and page on your website should have a purpose, and the CTA is how you make that purpose obvious.

Example

An Adelaide electrician ends every Instagram caption with "DM us 'SPARK' for a free quote" instead of just posting a photo with no direction. This simple CTA generates three to five new enquiries per week from social media alone.
