Organic Reach

Definition

Organic reach is the number of unique people who see your content without any paid promotion. It is the audience you reach through the quality and relevance of your content alone, shared by followers, surfaced by the algorithm, or discovered through hashtags and search. Organic reach is effectively free exposure for your brand.

Why It Matters

Organic reach has declined significantly on most platforms over the past few years, which is why many businesses feel like their posts are invisible. However, it is still the foundation of a strong social media presence. Brands that consistently create valuable, engaging content build organic reach over time, reducing their dependence on paid advertising. It is also a strong indicator that your content strategy is working.

Example

A local bakery posts a behind-the-scenes Reel of their sourdough process. Without spending a dollar, the Reel is viewed 12,000 times because it gets high engagement early on and the algorithm promotes it to a wider audience. That is organic reach in action.
