Reach

Definition

Reach is the total number of unique people who see your content. Unlike impressions, which count every time content appears on a screen, reach counts each person only once. If 500 different people see your Instagram post, your reach is 500, even if some of them saw it more than once.

Why It Matters

Reach tells you how many individual people your content is actually getting in front of. It is a critical metric for understanding the size of your audience and the effectiveness of your distribution strategy. Growing your reach means expanding the pool of potential customers who are aware of your brand, which is the first step in any marketing funnel.

Example

A post on a business page has a reach of 2,500. That means 2,500 unique people saw the post in their feed, in Stories, or through shares. If the business has 1,000 followers, a reach of 2,500 means the content broke out beyond the existing audience, a sign of strong performance.
