Reels
Definition
Reels are short-form vertical videos on Instagram, typically between 15 and 90 seconds long. They are designed for quick, entertaining, or informative content and are prominently featured in Instagram's Explore page and dedicated Reels tab. Reels are Instagram's answer to TikTok and are heavily prioritised by the algorithm.
Why It Matters
Reels consistently generate more reach and engagement than static image posts. Instagram actively promotes Reels to new audiences, making them the single best organic growth tool on the platform right now. For businesses, Reels are an opportunity to showcase personality, demonstrate products or services, and reach thousands of potential customers without spending on ads.
Example
A hairdresser films a 20-second before-and-after transformation Reel set to a trending audio. The Reel reaches 22,000 accounts, ten times their follower count, because Instagram pushes it to people who engage with similar beauty content.
