UGC (User-Generated Content)

Definition

User-generated content is any content, photos, videos, reviews, testimonials, created by your customers rather than your brand. It includes tagged photos on Instagram, Google reviews, unboxing videos, and social media posts where customers share their experience with your product or service. UGC is authentic, unpaid content created by real people.

Why It Matters

People trust other people more than they trust brands. UGC acts as social proof, it shows potential customers that real people are buying from you and having a positive experience. Sharing UGC on your own channels builds trust, saves you content creation time, and often outperforms polished branded content in terms of engagement and conversions.

Example

A winery encourages visitors to tag them on Instagram when they post photos of their tasting experience. The winery then reposts the best customer photos to their own feed with credit. These UGC posts consistently get 40 percent more engagement than the winery's own branded photography.
