Viral
Definition
Content goes viral when it spreads rapidly and widely through shares, reposts, and algorithmic promotion, reaching far beyond the original audience. Viral content typically generates thousands or millions of views in a short period. There is no exact threshold for "viral", it is relative to your usual performance. A post that reaches 50,000 people when you normally reach 500 would be considered viral for your account.
Why It Matters
While going viral is exciting, it should never be the goal of a social media strategy. Viral content is unpredictable, and the audience it attracts may not be your ideal customer. What matters more is consistent, targeted content that reaches the right people and drives real business outcomes. That said, creating shareable, entertaining, or highly relatable content increases your chances of viral moments that can accelerate brand awareness.
Example
A dog groomer films a funny Reel of a golden retriever refusing to get into the bath. The video gets shared thousands of times and reaches 500,000 views. The groomer gains 3,000 new followers overnight, but the real win is the 45 booking enquiries that come in from local viewers over the following week.
