The Challenge

Starting from zero with no clear direction.

This Adelaide business came to us with just 100 Instagram followers — most of whom were friends and family. They had no content strategy, inconsistent posting and zero engagement. They knew social media was important, but didn’t know where to start.

Our Approach

Systems and consistency over shortcuts and gimmicks.

01

Foundation & Strategy

A complete brand audit and competitor analysis. We identified the content themes, posting cadence and hashtag strategy that would resonate with the local Adelaide audience.

02

Consistent, Quality Content

Monthly content shoots producing professional photography and video. A content calendar balancing promotional content with value-driven, shareable posts. Reels and Stories designed for discovery.

03

Community Building

Active community management — responding to every comment and DM, engaging with local accounts, collaborating with complementary Adelaide businesses, and building genuine relationships with followers.

The Story

How it came together.

The brief

This local Adelaide business came to Fuel My Social with 100 Instagram followers, most of whom were friends and family, and a real problem: they knew social media mattered, they knew the business had a genuine story, and they knew they weren’t getting anywhere with the approach they had. Posting was inconsistent. Engagement was non-existent. The content didn’t have a clear direction or a defined voice, and the business owner was spending hours on social every week with nothing measurable to show for it. The brief was deliberately simple. Grow a real, local, engaged Instagram audience. No paid follower campaigns, no follow-unfollow gimmicks, no purchased followers from bot accounts. The measure of success was going to be whether the audience translated into customers walking through the door, not a vanity number on the profile header.

The strategy and execution

The Fuel My Social strategy was built around three habits that compound. Foundation and strategy, consistent quality content, and active community building. Foundation came first. A complete brand audit, competitor analysis across similar Adelaide businesses, and a content strategy that defined the pillars, posting cadence, visual style and hashtag approach for the account. Without that foundation, every post is a guess. Content came second. Monthly on-site content shoots produced professional photography and video that actually reflected what the business was really about. The content calendar balanced promotional posts with value-driven, shareable content and Reels designed specifically for the Instagram discovery algorithm. Everything was approved in advance, scheduled reliably, and published with intent rather than filler. Community building came third and ran every single day. Responding to every comment and DM, engaging with local Adelaide accounts, collaborating with complementary local businesses, and building genuine relationships with every new follower as they came in. That last piece is the one most agencies skip. It’s also the one that turns a follower into a repeat customer.

The Results

12,000 real followers. Real foot traffic.

Over the course of our partnership, we grew this business’s Instagram following from 100 to over 12,000 followers. These aren’t purchased followers or bots — they’re real people, locals within driving distance, who engage with the content and walk through the door.

The follower count is the surface metric. What actually matters is that this audience now drives genuine foot traffic, and the Instagram presence has become a real customer acquisition channel.

Followers don’t pay the bills. Customers do. Our job is to turn the first into the second.
